FAQs

9’0 (9 feet) is the minimum size. For shortboards, the maximum size is 7’0 (7 feet).

Will MSA provide a board for me?

I want to be a registered MSA member now. How do I apply?

You may apply during MSA events or via online application. Please refer to this link for the steps: <Insert link to membership>

What is the difference between the different divisions?

Please refer to this document for the information on the divisions.

I can’t make it to the kick-off party to register. Can someone do it for me?

Yes. Just print out the registration form and complete all the details. You may then request someone else to submit the completed form and pay the fee on your behalf to secure your slot. <Insert link to printable form>

You may also sign up online and pay the competition fee by bank deposit. Please refer to this link for the online form and steps: <Insert link to google doc form>

Are registration fees refundable if I suddenly decide to forfeit my slot?

No. All fees are non-refundable.

In the Team Challenge, can a team member sign up for more than one division of the MS Cup?

A team member from Manila in the Open divisions can sign up for two divisions and earn points from advancing in both of them. Those under the Novice and Mixed Local Grom division may only join one.

In the Team Challenge, can a team be composed of any combination of surfers?

Yes, as long as it is a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 team members, 2 of which are local groms.

What happens if there is a tie in the Team Challenge?

In the event of a tie, the heat scores of team members who advanced to each round will be added together. The team with the highest cumulative heat scores wins.

I have been surfing for quite awhile and I can say I am at an intermediate level - but I want to join the Novice Division. Is that possible?

No. Please sign up to the right divisions according to your skill level. If we notice people who signed up for the wrong division (because we will find out eventually!), we'll forfeit your slot without refund OR move you to the right division.

Can I sign up for the competition first so I can secure my slot, then just sign up for

membership after?

No. The slots are exclusive to MSA members, so it is important that you are a member FIRST before reserving a slot in the competition. The slots are limited and this would just be fair to the already existing members who applied early and want to compete. If we find out that you haven't applied for membership yet but reserved for the competition, your slot will be forfeited without refund.
